Nantucket Arts Festival 2018

Nantucket's sizable creative community, comprised of dozens of arts and cultural groups and hundreds of individual artists, will display and perform their work from Saturday, September 29 through Sunday, October 7. Events include an art exhibit featuring over 100 professional and amateur artists, concerts of classical, folk, and popular music, plays, lectures and readings, and new video shorts by and about Nantucketers.

 

Festival headquarters are again located at Nantucket United Methodist Church, on the corner of Main and Centre Streets. 🏛 denotes events produced by the Nantucket Arts Council and held at the Methodist Church.

Nantucket Arts Festival is produced by Nantucket Arts Council and Nantucket Cultural District.

Weekly Farmers and Artisans Market

Sustainable Nantucket's weekly Farmers and Artisans Market is a great way to peruse some of Nantucket's artistic talent. Local vendors include ceramics, weaving, jewelry, photography, painting, and more. The Market takes place from 9-1 every Saturday on Cambridge Street.

Book Signing: Steve Sheppard

Local mystery writer Steve Sheppard will be outside Mitchell's Book corner on Main street for a signing of his award winning novel Tourist Town. Stop by between 10:30 and 12 to say hello and pick up a copy.

Nantucket Arts Festival Concert: "The Lobbyists"

Nantucket Arts Council brings The Lobbyists back to Nantucket for an evening of music to open the 2018 Nantucket Arts Festival. The concert will be held at the Methodist Church with entrance to the art exhibit opening afterwards upstairs.

Nantucket Arts Festival Visual Art Exhibit Opening

Following the Lobbyists Concert at the Methodist Church Saturday September 29, head upstairs to view art from local artists in the signature Arts Festival Exhibit.

 

This year's theme is "Avoiding the Usual - Experiencing the Unforeseen in Unusual Ways"

The exhibit will be open through October 7. Time TBD. Free entry.

White Heron Theatre Company presents a night of comedy with Kevin Flynn as he takes a humorous and touching look at how the role of family provider in our country has changed in recent decades, through the stories of his father and grandfather, both construction workers, and his work as a stand-up comic. Continues Wed-Sat, October 3-6, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets available soon

Exhibit: Interwoven Stories

Part of artist Diana Weymar's collection of embroidered narratives, Interwoven Stories is a community stitching project that asks island embroiderers to create a 'page' that tells a story about their experience of Nantucket. Join us for an exhibit reception where more than 60 hand embroidered Nantucket 'pages' will be on display and we will celebrate the people who created them and their stories. The pages will be on display in the Great Hall from September 29 - Oct. 6.

Join audiences around the world for a viewing of internationally produced short films, selected as finalists in the Manhattan Short Film Festival. These nine qualifying films are screened simultaneously across the world during a one-week period, with the Best Film and Best Actor awards determined by ballots cast by the audiences in each participating venue.
