Celebrate Black History Month with Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce at our Black History Month Panel, Thursday, February 23rd, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Museum of African American History, 29 York Street. Desiree Spriggs, the Museum of African American History Nantucket Campus Director, will present an oral history of the space to open the event. Black History Month is an opportunity honor and understand Black histories. This year's theme, "Black Resistance," observes how Black people have resisted historic and ongoing oppression. Whether the oppression is personal, professional, or educational, Black people have persistently fought for a dignified self-determined life in a just democratic society, and this year's theme encompasses this.

The panelist will lead a discussion about Black Resistance, in relationship to their lives, and the positive and negative connotations associated with Black Resistance. We will also explore the representation of Black people in various industries, adversity Black people continue to face, and the progress or set-backs being made for the Black community.
